Polk Middle's Matthew Jarrett was among the winners Wednesday for the Wolverines

A big stage did nothing Wednesday to upset Polk County Middle’s wrestling team.

Wrestling at East Henderson High School before the Eagles’ match with Polk County, the Wolverines claimed a 69-24 victory, improving their record to 7-0 this season.

Polk Middle only lost two matches on the mat, with two forfeits, in moving into sole possession of first place in the Blue Ridge Conference’s East Division.

“Had an awesome night wrestling in front of the high school,” said Polk Middle head coach Jerry Cox. “We preached to our kids to put us in the driver’s seat moving forward and they certainly did that.”

Another test awaits Polk Middle on Monday as Brevard visits for a 4:30 p.m. match.
