Wolverines sweep Avery, remain tied top WHC volleyball race

Polk County continued its quest for a Western Highlands Conference volleyball title on Tuesday, sweeping Avery in a conference match in Newland.

The Wolverines rolled to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 win, improving to 14-4 overall, 9-1 in conference play. With the win, Polk County officially clinched one of the WHC’s automatic playoff berths.

The Wolverines are currently tied with Hendersonville atop the WHC standings. The two teams meet Oct. 13 at Polk.

Reagan Waddell had 12 kills and 16 digs for the Wolverines, with Mireya Roman adding eight kills, Addie Lynch seven kills and 14 digs and Ansley Lynch finishing with five kills. Georgia Garrett had 16 assists and 12 digs, Lauren Ketwitz had 13 assists and 12 digs and Kendall Hall had 18 digs for Polk.

Avery dropped to 5-10, 4-5 with the loss.

Polk County is slated to visit West Henderson on Wednesday for a non-conference clash.
