Wolverines suffer first conference loss at Brevard

Brevard rebounded from a first-set loss, squeaked through a close third set and handed Polk County a 3-1 setback Tuesday in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference volleyball showdown in Brevard.

The Blue Devils handed the Wolverines their first league loss in a 23-25, 25-8, 25-23, 25-13 match. Brevard improved to 7-2 overall, 5-1 in conference play, with Polk falling to 5-6, 2-1.

After falling in the first set, Brevard raced to an 18-4 lead in the second set, then picked up the pivotal third-set win en route to victory.

Caroline Taylor had four kills for Polk County, with Sophia Overholt and Ada Kelley each adding three kills. Ella Waldman had 12 digs, with Zaelea Eller notching eight digs and six assists.

Amberlyn Scruggs had nine digs and nine assists while Morgan Yoder had five blocks.

Another tough conference test awaits on Thursday as Patton visits Polk County. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Both matches will be shown live on NFHS Network.
