Polk County Middle rebounded from Tuesday’s tough loss at Macon Middle and swept Smoky Mountain Middle on Wednesday in a home Blue Ridge Conference match.
The Wolverines posted a 25-18, 25-16 victory, improving their record to 2-1 on the season. Smoky Mountain dropped to 0-2.
Polk Middle raced to a 5-1 lead in the first set, then saw the Mustangs rally to even the match at 5-5. An Abby Pruitt serving run helped push the Wolverines to a 14-7 advantage in the set, and the Mustangs got no closer than five points the rest of the way, with Jill Brown’s service winner ending the set.
The second set largely followed the same pattern as the Wolverines controlled play throughout.
Polk Middle is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Landrum Middle for a border rivalry battle set to begin at 5 p.m.
