Wolverines rebound from opening-set loss to trample Hilltoppers

After dropping the first set, Polk County found its rhythm and powered past R-S Central 3-1 Tuesday in non-conference volleyball action in Rutherfordton.

The Wolverines (1-0) shook off opening-night jitters following a rocky opening set to dominate the final three frames and claim a 15-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 triumph.

Senior Akeela Cunningham led the charge with a team-high 11 kills while adding 13 digs and three aces. Junior Beija Olivari contributed eight kills and seven digs, while senior Charley Dusenbury displayed her versatility with four kills, 12 assists, 17 digs and two aces.

The Wolverines’ defense proved particularly impressive, with sophomore Reeve Carroll anchoring the back row with 24 digs. Sophomore Abby Lewis orchestrated the offense, dishing out 16 assists.

Polk County won’t have much time to celebrate as the Wolverines return home Wednesday to host A.C. Reynolds in another non-conference clash at 5:30 p.m.
