In a pivotal Western Highlands Conference showdown, Polk County emerged victorious from a back-and-forth battle Thursday night, defeating Hendersonville 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 17-15) to take sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
The Wolverines (9-4, 5-1) showed resilience after dropping the opening set, rallying to win two straight before ultimately securing the match in a dramatic fifth set. The victory gives Polk County important momentum heading into Tuesday’s crucial matchup with conference leader Owen.
Akeela Cunningham led the Wolverines’ offensive attack with a 21-kill performance while adding 19 digs. Sophomore Reeve Carroll continued her consistent play with 10 kills and a team-high 26 digs, right in line with her season average of 9.9 kills per game.

Senior Charley Dusenbury guided the offense with 22 assists while contributing six kills and three blocks. Sophomore Abby Lewis added balance to the attack with 11 assists and 13 digs.
The loss drops Hendersonville to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Wolverines will look to take the momentum from Thursday’s win into Tuesday’s showdown with Owen, where first place in the Western Highlands Conference will be on the line.
