Wolverines extend winning streak, outlast Rockets in five-set thriller

Polk County’s volleyball team continued its hot streak Wednesday, outlasting A.C. Reynolds in a thrilling five-set non-conference match 29-27, 24-26, 21-25, 25-16, 17-15.

The victory marked the Wolverines’ fourth straight win, improving their record to 7-3 on the season, while the Rockets fell to 2-11.

Senior Charley Dusenbury delivered a dominant all-around performance for Polk County, recording a season-high 14 kills along with 25 digs, 19 assists and four blocks. Akeela Cunningham continued her stellar campaign with 18 kills and 18 digs, exceeding her season average of 12.4 kills per match.

The opening set set the tone for the evening’s back-and-forth battle, with Polk County ultimately prevailing 29-27. After dropping the next two sets, the Wolverines showed their resilience by decisively taking the fourth set 25-16 before closing out the match with a narrow 17-15 victory in the deciding frame.

Sophomore Reeve Carroll stepped up with 11 kills and 34 digs, while Abby Lewis contributed 18 assists and 19 digs from her setter position.

The win gives Polk County momentum heading back into Western Highlands Conference play as the Wolverines prepare to travel to Avery on Tuesday.
