Wolverines drop four against tough Kings Mountain tourney field

Polk County’s volleyball team encountered four of the top programs in the western half of the state Friday and Saturday during two days of tournament play in Kings Mountain.

The Wolverines opened play Friday with a 25-19, 25-14 loss to Community School of Davidson, currently ranked sixth in state 2A RPI. Polk then dropped a 25-17, 25-22 decision to Hickory, currently ranked third among state 5A squads.

The Wolverines completed pool play Saturday morning with a 25-15, 25-18 loss to Kings Mountain, the state’s top-ranked 6A squad. Polk then ended its tournament with a 25-20, 17-25, 15-11 setback against Mountain Island Charter.

Polk County, now 10-9, will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Mountain Heritage for a Western Highlands Conference match.
