Polk County will open the NCHSAA 3A state volleyball playoffs at home.

The Wolverines received the No. 13 seed in the 3A West bracket released Thursday and will host No. 20 Walkertown in Saturday’s opening round. Match time is at noon.

Polk enters the postseason at 15-12 after navigating a demanding regular-season schedule and finishing 8-4 in the Western Highlands Conference.

Walkertown will arrive with a 14-10 record and plenty of momentum. The Wolfpack opened the season 3-7, but won 11 of their final 14 matches.

Senior setter Chloe Isaacs and Olivia Bost earned all-conference honors for Walkertown. Isaacs surpassed 1,000 career assists earlier this season and also had the unusual accomplishment earlier this season of serving every point in a 25-0 set victory over Carver.

Bost, junior Caroline Idol and sophomore Jayden Isley have been among Walkertown’s leading hitters, while senior Sadie Smith anchors the defense. Smith earned all-tournament honors during the recent Mid-State 3A/4A/5A Conference Tournament.

Saturday’s winner will advance to Tuesday’s second round and travel to fourth-seeded Owen.

Polk and Owen met twice during the regular season, with the Warhorses winning both matches.
