Wolverine JVs power past Mustangs in straight-set victory

Polk County’s junior varsity claimed a narrow first-set win, then dominated the second set to sweep Smoky Mountain in a non-conference clash Wednesday in Sylva.

The Wolverines took a 25-23, 25-8 win to improve to 2-0 for the season.

Hayden Blackwell had five kills, eight assists and seven digs for Polk, with Akeela Cunningham adding five kills. Lexi Beiler had three kills, three digs and five aces.

Junie Mitchell notched six assists and Thais Vorbe added a pair of kills.

Polk County is set to travel Thursday to West Henderson for another non-conference match. The 5 p.m. tilt will be shown live on NFHS Network.
