Tuscola rallied from a first-set loss Monday to slip past Polk County 2-1 in junior varsity volleyball action in Waynesville.

The Wolverines (0-1) captured the first set 25-19 in their season opener, but Tuscola fought back for a 25-19 win in the second set, then squeaked out a 16-14 win in the deciding set.

Match stats

Cameron Ward had four kills, three aces, eight digs and two blocks for Polk County, with Elysia Smith adding three kills, 11 assists, five digs and three blocks. Sara Wilson added three kills.

Ella Waldman had 26 digs while Amberlyn Scruggs had 11 digs and seven assists.

Polk County returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Asheville Christian Academy for a 5 p.m. match.
