Polk County Middle used another strong defensive effort, plus a much better day at the service line, to remain unbeaten Wednesday with a 25-21, 25-7 victory over Apple Valley Middle.
The first set stayed tight into its latter stages. Polk held a narrow 12-11 lead before putting together a six-point run, with Tilly Harris serving the final five points of the surge, to open an 18-11 advantage. Apple Valley fought back, but the Wolverines held on for the 25-21 win.
Polk wasted no time taking control of the second set. Harris served the Wolverines to an 8-0 lead, and Polk continued to pull away from there, rolling to the 25-7 victory.

“Our passing and defense was really good again today,” Polk Middle coach Kenny Hall said. “And I think this team is starting to understand how important it is to get your serves in because when you don’t, it just kills your momentum. And so they did a good job with that today as well.”
Hall also pointed to the continued development of Ava Caristo at the net.
“Ava Caristo is becoming the kind of hitting force we’re gonna need moving forward,” he said.
The victory improved Polk Middle to 4-0 while Apple Valley fell to 2-2. The Wolverines are scheduled to return home Sept. 9 against Brevard Middle.
Polk Middle’s JV team also dominated its one-set match Wednesday, defeating Apple Valley 25-7.
