Polk volleyball squad named finalist for WNC Sports Awards Banquet

Polk County’s volleyball team has been named as a finalist for the 2024 WNC Sports Awards Banquet, set for May 19 at Grove Park Inn in Asheville.

The 2023 1A state champions are nominated forthe Homewood Suites Division II Female Team Major Sport. Other nominees include Brevard volleyball, Cherokee basketball, East Rutherford basketball and Mountain Heritage basketball.

Area coaches and athletic directors received nomination forms in March. Finalists for the awards were selected from those nominations.

The 62nd annual banquet will recognize the top athletes and teams in Western North Carolina. The event is conducted by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club and includes 24 awards, 18 scholarships, the Riley Howell Courage Award and a Special Olympics Scholarship.

Members of the public can attend the event. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at wncsportsawards.org.
