Polk County Middle cruised to victory Monday in its season opener, sweeping Madison Middle at Polk County Middle School.

The Wolverines posted a 25-7, 25-12 in the Blue Ridge Middle School Conference season opener for both teams.

“Our service game has been a point of emphasis in practice and the girls showed great improvement there,” said Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell. “Many of our girls were very nervous with yesterday being the first game of the year, but after the first few points they were focused and engaged.

“We still have a long ways to go to be where we want to be but these girls don’t shy away from hard work. The game with Brevard should be more of a test as they are talented and well-coached.”

Polk Middle’s fifth-quarter squad scored a 25-8 victory.

The Wolverines host Brevard Middle School on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
