A good day got even better late Wednesday for Polk County Middle’s volleyball team.
The Wolverines claimed a 2-1 win over Waynesville Middle in the first round of the Blue Ridge Conference Tournament, overcoming the third seed from the BRC’s West Division.
The 25-11, 24-26, 15-7 win earned Polk (10-3) a trip to the semifinals – at home. Thanks to Brevard’s upset of Macon Middle in the first round, the Wolverines will get to host the Blue Devils on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
All four East Division squads – Rugby, Polk, Apple Valley and Brevard – won their first-round matches.
“Waynesville played really tough against us. They deserve a lot of credit,” said Polk Middle head coach Kenny Hall. “Their style of play gave us problems.”
Polk Middle split its two regular-season meetings with Brevard, the defending conference champions.
