Polk Middle sweeps Rugby for first series win since 2015

Polk Middle engineered perhaps its biggest win of the season on Monday, knocking off Rugby 25-14, 25-20 in a Blue Ridge Conference volleyball match in Mills River.

It marks the first time the Wolverines (5-1, 4-1) have defeated the Raiders (4-2, 3-2) since the 2015 tournament championship match, a streak of six losses.

“I told the team they needed to prove that they could beat the best teams on their floor. Today they did that,” said PCMS head coach Kenny Hall.

“Brianna Powell and Ada Kelley had some big-time plays for us in the second set that turned the momentum in our favor and got us back on track.”

The win keeps Polk Middle in at least a tie for first place in the BRC’s East Division, pending recent Apple Valley results.

Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Bethel Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
