Polk County Middle used a fast start in the opening set and a strong finish in the second Monday to sweep Madison Middle in its volleyball season opener in Marshall.
The Wolverines earned a 25-15, 25-19 victory.
Polk scored the first six points of the opening set, with Tilly Harris at the service line for the final five points of that run. Madison answered, eventually moving in front 8-7, but the Wolverines quickly regained control.

Polk scored the next seven points to build a 14-8 advantage, with Isabella Irwin serving six straight points during the surge. The Wolverines never trailed again on the way to the 25-15 win.
The second set proved more competitive. The teams battled to a 17-17 tie before Polk took command down the stretch, scoring eight of the final 10 points to complete the sweep.
“Madison was a very improved team and gave us some problems at the net today,” said Polk Middle coach Kenny Hall. “But fortunately our defense was solid overall and we got some nice kills when we needed it from Maddie Jolley and Ava Caristo.”
Polk Middle will return home Wednesday to face Waynesville Middle.
