Polk County Middle’s volleyball team wasted little time making a statement in its 2025 season opener, sweeping past Asheville Christian Academy in straight sets on Thursday in Swannanoa.
The Wolverines claimed a 25-15, 25-6 victory in the Blue Ridge Conference matchup, dominating both sets with strong serving runs at crucial moments.
The opening set remained competitive early, with Polk holding a slim 5-3 advantage before the teams battled to a 12-12 tie. The Wolverines then seized control, reeling off an 8-2 run to build a commanding 20-14 lead. After ACA managed one more point, Polk closed out the set with five straight points for the win.

The second set showcased even more Wolverine dominance. Leading 7-5, Alexus Wingo stepped to the service line and completely changed the complexion of the match, rattling off 10 consecutive points to give Polk a commanding 17-5 advantage.
After Asheville Christian managed a single point to make it 18-6, Scottlynn Whiteside put an exclamation point on the victory, serving the final seven points to complete the sweep.
The victory marks a strong start for Polk Middle, who moves to 1-0 on the young season. The Wolverines will travel Monday to Canton Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
