
Polk County Middle survived a nail-biting first set Wednesday, then went on to complete a sweep of Brevard Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference volleyball match in Brevard.
The Wolverines earned a 27-25, 25-15 victory to up their record to 7-1 overall, 5-0 in BRC East Division matches. The Blue Devils fell to 4-2, 2-2.
A back-and-forth opening set featured late scoring runs by both teams, with Brevard rallying from a 13-8 deficit to take a 21-18 lead. Polk, though, responded with four straight points to grab a 23-22 advantage.
The Blue Devils then had two set points, at 24-23 and 25-24, but the Wolverines fought off both and scored the final three points of the set to secure the win.
The Wolverines then took charge in the second set with a streak of six straight points to take an 18-10 lead. Brevard got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Polk Middle will host Rugby Middle on Monday in a battle of East Division leaders. That match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
