Polk County Middle made its short trip to Landrum on Thursday a successful one, handing Landrum Middle a 3-0 setback in a border volleyball battle.

The Wolverines notched a 25-10, 25-23, 25-15 victory, improving their record to 3-1.

The second set offered the most drama of the match. Landrum opened a 9-4 lead and still held a 15-13 advantage when Polk put together a run of six straight points to grab a 19-15 lead.

The Cardinals hung tough and eventually evened the match at 23-23 before the Wolverines closed the set with Jill Brown serving the final two points.

“I am pleased to see how this team has responded since Monday’s loss,” said Polk Middle head coach Kenny Hall. “It’s not perfect yet, but players are starting to be where they need to be on offense and defense.

“Our serving was really good today and that’s a big part of our game.”

Polk Middle returns home Tuesday to face Apple Valley Middle in a 4:30 p.m. match.
