Polk County JVs sweep Avery to even season record

Polk County’s junior varsity volleyball team delivered a strong performance Thursday night with a 2-0 sweep of Avery in Western Highlands Conference action at Polk.

The victory improved Polk County to 10-10 overall on the season, marking an important milestone as the Wolverines reached the .500 mark with just one match remaining in the regular season. The win also gave Polk County back-to-back victories after the team had dropped three of its previous four contests.

Sophomore Claire Lawrence delivered a dominant performance at the net, recording 12 kills while adding 11 digs for a double-double. Setter Camdyn Israel-Garrett also recorded a double-double with 19 assists and a team-high 12 digs. Israel-Garrett also contributed two aces

The Wolverines received strong contributions across the roster in the sweep. Madalyn Varnadore came up big on the service line with three aces while adding a kill and two blocks. Emily Nance provided balanced production with four kills, two aces and six digs.

Defensively, Polk County controlled the back row with Olivia Kirk adding nine digs to complement Lawrence and Israel-Garrett’s efforts. Lorali Wing anchored the front line with four kills and four blocks while recording a dig.

The Wolverines will close out the schedule Tuesday when they host Hendersonville at home.

Avery fell to 11-7 with the loss.
