Polk County rallied from a set down and three points down in the final set Tuesday, storming back in the decisive fifth set to defeat Avery 3-2 in Western Highlands Conference action in Newland.
The Wolverines (8-3, 4-1) extended their winning streak to five matches, but not before weathering a stern test from the Vikings (7-5, 1-4) in the 25-12, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8 victory.
Trailing 7-4 in the fifth set, Polk County mounted an impressive comeback, scoring 11 of the final 12 points to secure the victory.

Senior Akeela Cunningham delivered a dominant performance for the Wolverines, recording 28 kills and 30 digs, both well above her season averages. Cunningham delivered a handful of kills in the final-set rally.
Sophomore Reeve Carroll finished with 14 kills and a remarkable 41 digs, while Abby Lewis and Charley Dusenbury orchestrated the offense with 29 and 21 assists, respectively.
Other notable contributions came from Dusenbury (10 kills, 18 digs) and Lewis (22 digs), while Junie Mitchell and Aslyn Scruggs provided steady defensive support with 11 and seven digs, respectively.
The Wolverines will look to extend their winning streak Wednesday when they host Landrum in a non-conference matchup.
