Polk County rebounded Thursday from Tuesday’s loss to Owen, defeating Mitchell 3-1 in a Western Highlands Conference matchup in Ledger.
The Wolverines improved to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the 25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18 road triumph. Mitchell dropped to 5-11, 1-7.
Senior Charley Dusenbury turned in one of her strongest performances of the season, recording 13 kills – nearly double her season average – while adding 23 assists and 21 digs for a complete all-around effort. Akeela Cunningham continued her consistent play with 19 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore Reeve Carroll contributed 16 kills and 13 digs.

The Wolverines’ defense proved particularly strong, with junior Aslyn Scruggs anchoring the back row with 22 digs, well above her season average of 10.9. Sophomore Abby Lewis orchestrated the offense effectively with 21 assists while adding nine digs.
Polk County will now prepare for a challenging weekend. The Wolverines will head to Kings Mountain for a two-day tournament beginning Friday, where they’ll face Community School of Davidson at 4 p.m. followed by Hickory at 7 p.m. Play continues Saturday as the Wolverines face host Kings Mountain at 11 a.m.
