Polk County freshman Sophia Overholt recorded a double-double in Wednesday's loss at Patton

Two of the top volleyball teams in the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference waged quite a battle Wednesday evening.

Patton emerged from that scrap with a five-set win over Polk County, outlasting the Wolverines 25-17, 19-25, 18-25, 25-21, 16-14 in a conference match in Morganton.

The Wolverines dropped to 6-9 overall, 3-3 in league play with the loss. Patton improved to 12-2, 5-2 in avenging a four-set loss at Polk County last week.

Sophia Overholt had 17 kills, 15 digs and four aces for Polk County, with Morgan Yoder recording 15 kills and three blocks. Ada Kelley had 12 kills and six digs while Mia Bradley added six kills.

Amberlyn Scruggs had 24 assists and eight digs, with Zaelea Eller notching 18 assists and 10 digs.

Ella Waldman added 25 digs for Polk County, which is back on the road again Thursday to face R-S Central.
