Owen JVs outlast Polk County in three-set thriller

Polk County’s junior varsity volleyball team battled Thursday evening in its Western Highlands Conference opener, but ultimately fell to Owen in three sets, 25-17, 21-25, 16-14.

The road loss drops the Wolverines to 3-3 on the season.

Despite the setback, several Wolverines delivered strong individual performances. Claire Lawrence continued her consistent play with six kills and 13 digs, while Camdyn Israel-Garrett orchestrated the offense with 12 assists and added 11 digs and two service aces.

The Wolverines’ defense showed resilience throughout the match, with Olivia Kirk (14 digs) and Ava Evans (13 digs) leading a strong back-row effort. Middle blocker Lorali Wing made her presence felt at the net with four blocks and two kills, both above her season average. Emily Nance contributing two kills and two aces.

The match marked the beginning of Western Highlands Conference play for both squads. Polk County will look to rebound when it returns home Tuesday to host Mitchell. The conference matchup is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Polk County.
