Polk County’s junior varsity volleyball squad dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision Thursday to Mountain Heritage in a Western Highlands Conference match at Polk.
The loss drops Polk County’s JV squad to 4-4 on the season.
Despite the setback, several Wolverines delivered strong individual performances. Sophomore Claire Lawrence finished with 12 kills and 12 digs while Emily Nance contributed seven kills and a season-high 17 digs. Camdyn Israel-Garrett orchestrated the offense with 21 assists while adding three kills and 15 digs.

The opening set saw Mountain Heritage edge out a narrow 25-23 victory, but Polk County responded forcefully in the second. Behind Lawrence’s aggressive play at the net and Olivia Kirk’s defensive effort (15 digs), the Wolverines took the second set 25-18 to force a decisive third frame.
Mountain Heritage ultimately prevailed in the final set, pulling away for a 15-11 victory to claim the match.
Ava Evans (11 digs) and Madalyn Varnadore (4 kills, 1 block) contributed solid performances for Polk County in the losing effort.
The Wolverines will look to bounce back when they host Madison on Tuesday in another Western Highlands Conference matchup.
