Apple Valley opened a huge third-set lead Wednesday and staved off a Polk Middle rally to hand the Wolverines a 2-1 setback in a Blue Ridge Conference volleyball battle at Polk Middle.
The Knights (3-5) posted a 23-25, 25-19, 15-10 victory, dropping the Wolverines to 5-4 overall on the season.
Polk trailed 23-19 in the opening set, but closed the set with a 6-0 run, Alia Vorbe serving the final five points, to grab a 1-0 lead.

The Knights took command of the second set midway through, putting together a streak of nine straight points to grab a 17-10 advantage. The Wolverines fought back and closed within 22-19 before Apple Valley notched the final three points to win the set and even the match.
The Knights then opened the deciding third set with an 8-0 run and built a 13-1 lead before Polk Middle once again rallied, reeling off eight straight points as Breelyn Morrison served to pull within 13-9. But the Knights scored a point off a serve return to snap the run, then closed the match shortly thereafter.
Polk Middle begins a three-match road trip on Monday, traveling to Hendersonville Middle.
