With the second set tied at 16-16, Irwin served nine straight points to close out a 25-17, 25-16 victory over Waynesville Middle.

Polk Middle took the opening set 25-17, but coach Kenny Hall wasn’t entirely pleased with the Wolverines’ performance.
“Our serving was off today. We were fortunate to win with as many errors as we had,” Hall said.
Waynesville then stayed with the Wolverines throughout the second set, eventually pulling even at 16. Polk won the next rally to regain the serve, and Irwin took over from there, serving out the match as the Wolverines reeled off the final nine points.
“Izzy Irwin came up solid for us though at the end to go on a long serving run to finish the match,” Hall said.
The victory improved Polk Middle to 2-0.
Polk Middle’s JV squad also earned a win Wednesday, taking its one-set match 25-18.
The Wolverines are scheduled to travel to Rugby Middle on Monday.
