
Hilltoppers bounce Wolverines from conference tourney
Polk County’s first foray into Mountain Foothills 7 Conference volleyball tournament play ended Tuesday with a 3-1 loss in a quarterfinal match at R-S Central.
The Hilltoppers claimed a 17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 27-25 victory, advancing to a semifinal matchp with top-seeded Brevard.
Polk County dropped to 10-13 overall and will await Thursday’s announcement of the state 2A playoff bracket. The Wolverines are expected to receive a wild-card berth and open the postseason on Saturday at an opponent to be announced.
Sophia Overholt had 18 kills and 15 digs for Polk County, with Morgan Yoder adding 10 kills and 14 digs. Ada Kelley had eight kills and seven digs, with Mia Bradley posting five kills, 10 assists and seven digs.
Amberlyn Scruggs had 17 assists, with Elysia Smith adding seven assists. Ella Waldman had 12 dogs for Polk County.
