Hendersonville Middle handed Polk County Middle its first loss of the season on Wednesday, knocking off the Wolverines in two sets at Polk.
The Bearcats recorded a 25-22, 25-18 in the matchup of Blue Ridge Conference East Division teams. Hendersonville Middle improved to 3-1 overall, with the Wolverines falling to 4-1.
Hendersonville Middle raced to a 10-1 lead in the opening set, but Polk Middle found its footing and fought back, eventually grabbing a 20-19 lead during a long service run by Alia Vorbe. With the score tied at 21-21, though, the Bearcats scored four of the final five points to seal the set.

Polk Middle led early in the second set, but Hendersonville surged to a 7-4 advantage and never let that edge go. The Wolverines did rally from down 17-9 to pull within three at 19-16, but the Bearcats were able to close out the match.
Polk Middle returns to the court on Monday, hosting Flat Rock Middle in a 4:30 p.m. encounter.
