Polk County Middle improved its record to 5-1 on Monday, sweeping Hendersonville Middle in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference volleyball match in Hendersonville.
The Wolverines (5-1) took a 25-16, 25-11 win. Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell was especially proud of how the Wolverines played in the second game of the match.
“Our focus today was getting a great start,” Russell said. “We’ve struggled the last three matches at digging a hole early on. In the first set today, it took us a while to get going but we were able to score three straight points with the final point being a kill from Kristen Hall.
“In the second set we had the start we’ve been pushing for. After dropping the first point of the match in serve receive, we broke Hendersonville’s serve and Marilyn Castillo went on a 15-point run. Hendersonville burned through both timeouts and the match turned into a back and forth affair until we wrapped it up at 25-11.”
Polk Middle’s fifth quarter team earned a 25-11 victory.
The Wolverines are back in action on Wednesday, hosting Flat Rock.
