On an afternoon celebrating its eighth grade players, Polk County Middle’s volleyball team continued its impressive season with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Brevard Middle on Wednesday.

The Wolverines (9-1) needed late heroics in the opening set before pulling away in the second to secure their fourth win in their last five matches. The victory helped Polk maintain its share of the lead in the Blue Ridge Conference East Division.

The first set saw Brevard Middle (5-5) threatening to spoil the celebration, building leads of 15-11 and 19-16. But the Wolverines showed their resilience, battling back to tie the score at 19-19. Facing set point at 24-23, Polk County responded with three straight points to claim a dramatic 26-24 win.

Carrying that momentum into the second set, Polk Middle raced to an early 8-3 advantage and never looked back, controlling play throughout en route to the victory.

The win came during a busy stretch for the Wolverines, who return to action Thursday at home against Apple Valley Middle. The 4 p.m. match was rescheduled from Tuesday.
