Polk Middle responded to its first loss of the season by going to the movies.
In the wake of last week’s setback against Hendersonville Middle, the Wolverines gathered as a group to watch game film from that defeat. The lessons learned from that session paid off Monday as Polk Middle stormed to a 25-7, 25-10 victory over Flat Rock Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference home match.
The Wolverines (5-1) scored the first eight points Monday, setting the tone for the match as Flat Rock (0-5) often struggled with serve receive. The win provided a good bounce-back opportunity ahead of Wednesday’s matchup with undefeated Brevard Middle.

“That is a good way to respond,” said Polk Middle head coach Kenny Hall. “I’m very pleased with the way both our teams (varsity and JV) responded after the loss against Hendersonville.
“We were able to watch the game, study the film and see a lot of the mistakes that were made. It just showed the girls that if we can clean up a lot of simple mistakes and be in places where we should be, we can be as good as anyone in the conference. So that was a great thing we did for practice one day, just watch video, and they did a great job today.”
The Wolverines raced to a 20-4 lead in the opening set, and while the second set was much closer early in the stanza, Polk Middle also built a large advantage there before serving the final point to seal the win.
Polk will host Wednesday’s match at 4:30 p.m. with Brevard Middle (5-0).
