Cunningham named WHC’s top player, Carroll earns defensive honor, three others tabbed All-WHC

Polk County senior Akeela Cunningham has been named the Western Highlands Conference Volleyball Player of the Year and sophomore Reeve Carroll the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Three other Wolverines were chosen for the All-WHC squad – Charley Dusenbury, Abby Lewis and Aslyn Scruggs.

Cunningham led Polk County with 393 kills – ranking sixth in the state among 3A players – while also recorded a team-high 49 aces. She also finished second on the team in digs with 440 while helping lead the Wolverines to a 15-12 record and the second round of the state 3A playoffs.

Carroll recorded a team-high 489 digs for Polk County, that figure second-highest in the state among 3A players and 13th among all players. She began the season at libero before moving into playing around the court due to injuries elsewhere in the lineup. She finished second on the team in kills with 266.
