Rhein sets triple jump mark to lead Polk efforts at TIEC

Sam Rhein set a school indoor record in the triple jump to highlight Polk County’s performance at Thursday’s Tryon Indoor #2 meet at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Rhein won three medals for the Wolverine boys, who finished fourth among 12 schools with 57 points. Jay M. Robinson won the team title with 112 points, followed by Hickory Christian Academy (76) and R-S Central (61).

Rhein set the school indoor record in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 7.5 inches, breaking the mark of 40-8.5 set by Ethan Rhodes in 2009. Rhein also placed second in the long jump (20-8) and third in the shot put (38-2.75).

Jesse Moore won the boys 55-meter hurdles in 9.67 seconds and placed sixth in the long jump (18-4.5). Danny Bradley finished 18th in the 55 meters (7.15) and 10th in the 300 meters (38.55).

Ethan Jenne placed fifth in the 1,600 meters (5:28.04), William Finch took fourth in the 3,200 meters (12:26.10) and Dean Holland finished 13th in the 1,000 meters (3:27.62). Max Butterfield placed fifth in the 3,200 (14:01.67).

Jayvin Clark and Austin Martin each tied for sixth in the pole vault (7-6), while Caleb Young and Reese Huysman tied for ninth (6-6). Benjamin Winkel finished eighth in the shot put (29-0.5), Lander Moss-Barnhart took ninth (27-3) and Jadyn Bramer placed 15th (22-7).

The boys 4×800 relay team finished third.

For the girls, who finished eighth with 24 points, Leah Dotson placed third in the pole vault (7-6) and fourth in the long jump (12-2). Renee Bright took fifth in the 500 meters (1:39.45) and 10th in the 55-meter hurdles (10.92).

Amberina Jenne finished ninth in the 1,600 meters (6:21.61) and 19th in the 300 meters (51.26). Khloe Kitchen placed 15th in the 1,600 (7:03.75) and Kendra Kitchen took 17th (8:54.32). Sadie Schweitzer finished eighth in the 1,000 meters (4:26.09).

Alaysia Hamrick placed 15th in the 55 meters (8.43) and 28th in the 300 (53.84). Adrianne Dyson finished 30th in the 55 meters (9.38), Manuela Sanchez took fifth in the long jump (9-10), Brianna Dyson placed fifth in the shot put (22-5) and Minda McComas finished 11th (20-4) and 35th in the 55 meters (10.39).

Jay M. Robinson won the girls team title with 103 points, followed by Hickory Christian Academy (97) and Pisgah (41).
