Polk girls, boys each earn top-10 finishes at TIEC indoor meet

Polk County’s boys and girls indoor track and field teams each placed in the top 10 at Thursday’s Tryon HS Meet #4 at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

The Wolverine boys finished seventh with 42.5 points among 14 schools. Providence Day won the team title with 112 points, followed by Franklin (89) and Pisgah (62).

Polk County’s girls placed eighth with 23 points in a 14-team field. Providence Day claimed the girls championship with 174 points, followed by Franklin (80) and Pisgah (52).

Sam Rhein led the Wolverines with three top-five finishes, placing second in the long jump (21-0) and triple jump (41-7.5) and fifth in the shot put (37-3.5). Rhein matched the school record in the triple jump that he set last week at the same venue.

Jesse Moore finished second in the long jump (17-8) and seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (9.76).

Danny Bradley took sixth in the 300 meters (38.51) and eighth in the triple jump (35-2). Jayvin Clark placed fifth in the pole vault (8-9), while Austin Martin and Caleb Young tied for eighth (8-3). Logan Baird finished sixth in the high jump (5-2) and 22nd in the 500 meters (1:37.18).

The boys 4×800 relay team placed fifth and the 4×200 relay finished fourth.

For the girls, Leah Dotson claimed two medals, finishing third in the pole vault (7-3) and seventh in the shot put (23-1). Brianna Dyson placed eighth in the shot put (22-7.5), Minda McComas took 15th (18-1), and Manuela Sanchez finished 15th in the long jump (9-10).

Renee Bright placed eighth in the 500 meters (1:39.13). Alaysia Hamrick finished 16th in the 55 meters (8.28) and 17th in the 300 (54.41). Adrianne Dyson took 27th in the 55 meters (9.42).

Khloe Kitchen placed 13th in the 1,000 meters (4:01.65), Sadie Schweitzer finished 18th (4:28.63), Drew Young took 22nd in the boys 1,000 (3:29.92), and William Finch placed 15th in the 1,600 (5:42.39).

The girls 4×800 relay team finished fourth, the 4×400 relay placed fifth and the 4×200 relay took fifth.
