Polk boys take top honors, girls second at Legends Invitational

Polk County’s boys track and field team captured the team title while the girls finished second at Saturday’s Legends Invitational Polar Bear Indoor meet at Madison High School.

The Wolverine boys won with 117 points, outdistancing runner-up Enka’s 88. Madison (34), Asheville Christian (27) and Christ School (16) rounded out the top five in the nine-team field.

Polk County’s girls finished second with 75 points, just behind Enka’s 79. Avery County (67), Asheville Christian (54) and Madison (24) completed the top five in the six-team field.

The Wolverines claimed 10 individual event titles on the day in their first competition of the indoor season.

Sam Rhein swept the boys jumping events, winning the long jump (19 feet, 2.25 inches), triple jump (36-6.25) and shot put (36-8). Danny Bradley captured the 55 meters (7.00 seconds) and 300 meters (36.38). Ryan Welch won the 500 meters (1:27.11) and Jesse Moore took the high jump (4-0).

For the girls, Leah Dotson won the long jump (12-5.25) and triple jump (24-7.25). Renee Bright finished second in the 55-meter hurdles (10.85) and third in the 500 meters (1:39.76).

Ethan Jenne placed fourth in the boys 1,600 meters (5:38.45), while William Finch finished fifth (5:48.12). Amberina Jenne took fifth in the girls 1,600 (6:19.08) and sixth in the 300 meters (48.70). Sadie Schweitzer placed fifth in the girls 1,000 meters (4:06.75).

Logan Baird finished second in the boys 500 meters (1:37.71). Moore added second-place finishes in the long jump (18-3.75) and 300 meters (42.38). Bradley also placed second in the triple jump (35-10) and third in the long jump (16-8.25). Rhein added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (13-10.25).

Alaysia Hamrick took seventh in the girls 55 meters (8.72) and eighth in the 300 meters (55.62). Giulia Marisco finished ninth in the 55 meters (9.06) and third in the long jump (10-3). Adrianne Dyson placed 13th in the 55 meters (10.15) and ninth in the 300 meters (55.62).

Khloe Kitchen finished sixth in the girls 1,600 meters (6:54.43) and Kendra Kitchen placed fifth in the 1,000 meters (5:11.49). Brianna Dyson took fifth in the shot put (21-8).

Drew Young placed fifth in the boys 1,000 meters (3:39.53). Jadyn Bramer finished sixth in the shot put (21-6.50).
