Jergenson’s second-place toss leads Polk at H.O.T. Santa indoor track meet

Alana Jergenson’s second-place finish in the shot put Friday led Polk County’s efforts at the H.O.T. Santa indoor track meet at JDL Fast Track.

Jergenson had a throw of 31-4 to place behind North Stokes’ Josie Stanbery at the meet, which featured athletes from all over the state.

Polk County’s boys 4×400-meter relay team placed third with a time of 3:44.86, with Olivia Overholt adding a fifth-place finish in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:24.77. Overholt’s time bettered the qualifying standard for the state indoor championships on Feb. 15 at JDL.

Braxton Edwards also notched a qualifying performance in the pole vault, clearing 10-6 to take seventh in the event. Edwards was also sixth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:13.82.

Polk County athletes will compete Wednesday in the annual Reindeer Games, set to begin at 4 p.m. in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
