Polk County’s Sean Doyle finished 8th Saturday in the Elite 800 meters to lead a local group of runners competing in the two-day David Oliver Classic in Winston-Salem.
Doyle sat second in the race after 600 meters before slowing in the final 200 to finish with a time of 1:58.19. Jayquan Williams of Green Hope High School won the race with a time of 1:56.42.
Also competing Saturday were Jacob Wolfe, who placed 31st in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:45.35, and Mitchell Brown, who placed 39th with a time of 2:47.07. Some 70 runners competed in the race. The meet featured some of the top high school runners from around the region.
Brown also ran Friday in the 3200-meter run, taking 27th with a time of 10:19.62.
All three athletes will return to JDL on Saturday to compete in the state 2A/1A indoor track championships.
