1A West Regional track and field meet moving to Polk County

Polk County track and field athletes will get an unexpected chance for one more home meet this season.

The 1A West Regional meet is slated for Friday, and the original plan called for Swain County High School to host that event at Montreat College. But a conflict at Montreat left Swain scrambling last week to find a new venue for hosting the regional.

That venue will be G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The 1A West Regional is moving to Polk County. Swain will still serve as the host school and will be running the meet, but Polk County staff will provide concessions and the facility for the meet that will determine qualifiers for the 1A state track and field championships.

The regional meet is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. with field events and track preliminaries. Track finals are scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.
