Wolverines held to lone hit in loss at Owen

Owen pitcher Kylie Gurekry struck out eight batters and allowed just one hit as the Warhorses defeated Polk County 10-0 in Tuesday’s Western Highlands Conference softball opener in Swannanoa.

Owen scored in each of the first four innings to build a 4-0 lead, then added six runs in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.

Aslyn Scruggs had Polk County’s only hit, a single in two at-bats.

Owen improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the WHC.

Polk County (0-5, 0-1 WHC) travels to Landrum on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
