Kenzie Alm had three hits and scored two runs for Polk Middle in Monday's win

An opponent finally kept Polk Middle’s offense from scoring at least 10 runs. It didn’t deter the Wolverines in the slightest.

Polk Middle rapped out 15 hits Monday and scored in five of its six at-bats en route to a 9-3 win over Flat Rock Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference matchup at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Wolverines (3-0-1), who scored at least 10 runs in each of their first three games, raced to a 6-0 lead after four innings, then added three runs in the sixth before Flat Rock (1-2) scored twice in the seventh inning.

Lucy Tessnair pitched a complete game for the win, allowing just two hits and striking out 11.

Izzy Young’s two-out triple in the first scored Polk’s first win, and the Wolverines added two more in the second inning as Addison Queen singled, Mary Marrow was hit by a pitch and Minda McComas singled to drive home Queen. Kenzie Alm delivered a two-out base hit to give Polk a 3-0 advantage.

The Wolverines added a run in the third on Camdyn Israel-Garrett’s single, then two more in the fourth. With one out, Amiyah Waters walked and Alm singled. With two outs, both stole a base, and Waters then scored on a passed ball. Alm moved to third on that pitch and then stole home to put Polk up 6-0.

Marrow and McComas singled to open the sixth. A one-out Alm base hit scored McComas, and Tessnair then drove in two runs with a two-out double.

Alm finished 3-for-4 with two RBI for Polk, with Tessnair, Marrow and McComas each adding two hits. Hayford, Israel-Garrett, Queen and Waters each added a hit.

Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Brevard Middle in a 4:30 p.m. game.
