Trojans pull away late to down Wolverines

Chase scored two runs in the third inning and pulled away with five in the fourth to defeat Polk County 11-1 in Monday’s non-conference softball game in Forest City.

The Trojans (8-4) added four more runs in the sixth to end the game by run rule.

Polk County scored its lone run in the fourth inning when Aslyn Scruggs singled, stole second and scored on Bella Lancaster’s RBI single. The Wolverines kept pace with the Trojans, trailing 2-1, before the fourth-inning outburst keyed by Taylor Wall’s two-run double.

Scruggs led Polk County with two hits, while Lancaster also added two hits and drove in the run. Tory Coile and Camdyn Israel-Garrett each contributed one hit.

Polk County (0-13) hosts Madison on Tuesday for a Western Highlands Conference game.
