Polk Middle softballers staying positive in face of early-season adversity

It hasn’t been the start to the 2022 season that Jamie Graber wanted for her Polk County Middle softball squad.

But that hasn’t dampened the Wolverines’ enthusiasm.

“The biggest strength of the group is the ability to stay positive in the face of adversity,” Graber said.

Polk Middle dropped a 13-1 decision Tuesday to Hendersonville Middle, falling to 0-5 this season.

The fact that Polk County High School’s softball team is starting four freshmen this year shows that this always shaped up to be a rebuilding year for Polk Middle. But Graber is seeing signs of that development beginning to take hold.

“This team is very young, but they have been improving dramatically as the season progresses,” Graber said. “I am proud of the heart, hustle and grit they demonstrate on a regular day.”

Polk Middle is set to be back in action on Thursday, traveling to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. game.
