Kayla Hayford went 5-for-5 with five runs scored and Payton Emory drove in six runs to lead Polk Middle to a 21-13 victory over Hendersonville Middle in Thursday’s Blue Ridge Conference softball game in Hendersonville.
The Wolverines (5-2) bounced back from Wednesday’s loss to Rugby Middle with an offensive explosion, scoring in every inning while piling up 20 hits.
Polk Middle jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before Hendersonville answered with six runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Wolverines regained control with a five-run second inning that featured a three-run triple by Kaydence Cole, then added two more in the third to lead 11-7.

Polk Middle put the game away with a five-run fourth inning and five more in the fifth to build a 21-10 advantage.
Hayford added a double, triple, walk and two stolen bases in her 5-for-5 performance. Emory finished 3-for-5 with a double and triple, while Aubrey Champion went 3-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, a double and a stolen base.
Kenzie Alm contributed two hits, including a double, with four runs scored and two stolen bases. Emma Jackson went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Maddie Jolley added three hits, two RBI and a double.
Cole finished with four RBI and a triple while Kali Masters drew three walks, scored three runs and stole three bases.
Emory earned the win in the circle.
Hendersonville Middle dropped to 0-5.
Polk County Middle hosts Apple Valley Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
