Polk JV softball squad rolls past Tuscola in season opener
Polk County exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth Monday to break open a close game en route to an 11-5 win over Tuscola in junior varsity softball action at Polk County.
Keyed by at-bats from Katelyn Allison and Karli Wood, the Wolverines broke a 3-3 tie with the big fourth inning, then added three more runs in the fifth to win their season opener. Allison, Wood and Ashley Ponder had base hits in the fifth, with Ponder scoring on a wild pitch, to account for that rally.
“I felt like Karli Wood hit the ball really well,” said Polk County head coach Jeff Wilson. “Katelyn Allison, Caitlin Britton and Ashley Ponder provided a lot of energy.”
Wood had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Wolverines, who also got two hits from Allison, Ponder and Hannah Emory.
Britton was the winning pitcher for Polk County, which hosts Asheville Trailblazers on Wednesday.
