Gosnell homer part of Wolverine outburst in win at Avery

Maranda Gosnell homered as Polk County rolled to a 15-3 win Tuesday over Avery in a Western Highlands Conference game in Newland.

Four Wolverines had three hits each as the Wolverines (3-2, 2-1) had their best output of the season, scoring in every inning.

“We hit the ball really well,” Thompson said.

Gosnell finished 3-for-4 with three RBI while Morgan Stott, Hannah Emory and Autumn Owen each had three hits. Emory and Stott each scored three runs while Owen had two RBI.

Ashley Scruggs pitched five innings to earn the victory, with Haley Fowler pitching the sixth.

Avery dropped to 1-2, 1-1 with the loss.

Polk County will make the short trip to Landrum on Saturday, facing the Cardinals in a non-conference clash at 1 p.m.
