Asheville notches walk-off win to spoil Polk’s season debut

Asheville scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Polk County 5-4 in Tuesday’s season opener in Asheville.

The Cougars scored twice in the first inning and added single runs in the third, fifth and seventh to edge the Wolverines.

Polk County scored two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Lucy Tessnair led the offensive attack with three hits in three at-bats, including a double, two RBI and a run scored. Aslyn Scruggs also collected three hits with an RBI and a run scored while Tory Coile finished 2-for-3 with a triple and a run.

Asheville improved to 1-0 with the victory.

The Wolverines (0-1) return home Thursday to face Chase.
