Polk County’s baseball and softball teams will get quite familiar this spring with their Western Highlands Conference brethern.
League athletic directors recently voted to adjust the WHC schedule for the next two years, with teams now facing either other three times per season instead of two. Athletic directors cited the difficulty of finding enough non-conference opponents in approving the change.
The change will go into effect this spring. To prevent baseball teams from facing a team’s ace in all three meetings, teams will play two of the three games in the same week.

Polk County’s baseball is slated to open its regular-season and conference schedule on March 2, hosting Owen. The Wolverine softball squad will travel Feb. 28 to North Henderson before hosting Owen on March 2.
