Polk County High School student-athletes recently visited Tryon Elementary School, spending time sharing lunch, conversation and plenty of smiles with some of the district’s youngest students.
PCHS Athletic Director Michelle Fagan organized the visit as an opportunity for Wolverine athletes to give back to the community while serving as positive role models for younger students.
The effort is designed to encourage student-athletes to recognize that their impact can extend well beyond competition, with leadership, character and service all important parts of representing Polk County High School.

Custom closets, built ins, a real pantry. Skytop Cabinets builds the space you need.
The Tryon Elementary visit is the first in what Fagan hopes will become a broader outreach effort. Plans call for PCHS student-athletes to visit each of the district’s elementary schools during the school year.
The goal is to strengthen connections between the high school athletic program and younger students throughout Polk County while giving Wolverine athletes another opportunity to lead by example.
For the students involved, the visit offered a simple reminder that being a Wolverine is about more than what happens on the field or court. It also means representing the community, building relationships and setting an example for those who may one day follow in their footsteps.
